I'm Robert — a FireQual qualified fire door inspector covering Escrick and surrounding areas. Whether you need a single door inspected, a full HMO survey, or new doors fitted, I handle it personally. No sales team, no subcontracting — you deal with me from first call to final report.

I come to you. Inspections, surveys and remedial work carried out at your property across Yorkshire.

Fire door work, done properly

I've been on the tools since 1988 and picked up fire door work as building safety rules tightened. These days most of my work is split between landlords and letting agents needing compliance, and builders or property managers needing new doors fitted to spec.

One person on the job

When you call, you get me — not a call centre. When I turn up in Escrick, I'm the one doing the survey, the fit, and the paperwork. Nothing gets lost between sales and the tradesperson, because there isn't one.

FireQual qualified inspector

I hold the FireQual Fire Door Inspector qualification, CSCS Gold Card, and 35+ years on the tools. Reports are accepted by insurers, Responsible Persons and enforcement officers.

Written compliance reports

Every inspection comes with a written report — door leaf, frame, seals, gaps, hinges, closer, ironmongery — against BS 8214 / Approved Document B. Photos included. You can hand it straight to your insurer or RP.

Local to Escrick

Most of my work is within Escrick and the Yorkshire region, so I know the housing stock and can usually fit jobs in quickly. Emergency callouts available where capacity allows.

What I cover

Everything fire-door related, from a single damaged door to a full commercial survey.

Inspections & reports

Full condition and compliance survey of each door with a written report you can give to insurers or the Responsible Person.

  • • BS 8214 / Approved Doc B checks
  • • Door, frame, seals, closer, hinges
  • • Photos with every item
  • • 6-monthly inspection contracts

New fire door installation

Fit-out of new fire doors — flats, HMOs, care homes, schools, offices. Correct doorsets, correct ironmongery, correct certification.

  • • FD30 and FD60 doorsets
  • • Self-closers, hinges, seals
  • • New builds and retrofits
  • • Certification paperwork supplied

Maintenance & repairs

Fix the small stuff before it becomes a failed inspection — dropped hinges, damaged seals, worn closers, gaps that are too wide.

  • • Seal replacement (intumescent & smoke)
  • • Hinge and closer replacement
  • • Gap adjustment and rehanging
  • • Ironmongery upgrades

Compliance help

If you've had a fire risk assessment flagging doors, or you're a landlord trying to get on top of HMO requirements, I can walk you through what's actually needed.

  • • RRO 2005 plain-English help
  • • HMO compliance for landlords
  • • Insurance and FRA follow-ups
  • • Honest advice, not upsells

Urgent jobs

Door won't shut, closer's gone, damaged after a break-in or a tenant incident? Get in touch — I'll fit you in if I can.

  • • Emergency repair visits
  • • Temporary make-safe
  • • Same-week return for full fix
  • • Subject to capacity

Pre-purchase / tender help

Buying a block, tendering an HMO refit, or pricing fire door work into a build? I can walk the site and give you a realistic scope and cost.

  • • Pre-purchase surveys
  • • Scope of works for tenders
  • • Specification advice
  • • Buildability sanity-check

How I work

1

A proper conversation first

Give me a call or drop a message. I'd rather spend ten minutes understanding what you actually need than send a generic form back. If it's a small repair, I might be able to quote over the phone.

2

Site visit and quote

For anything bigger than a single door I'll come and look. Where a survey fee or a travel and mobilisation charge applies, it's set out as a separate line in your quotation and confirmed before the visit is booked. You'll get a written quote with a clear scope: what I'm doing, what I'm not, and what it'll cost.

3

The work itself

I turn up when I said I would. I clean up after myself. If something surfaces that wasn't in the original scope, I identify it and agree it with you before the cost is incurred, wherever that's reasonably possible.

4

Paperwork and aftercare

Written report, photos, and certification where relevant — delivered by email so you've got something to hand your insurer or RP. If something goes wrong within the guarantee period, I come back.

Qualifications and standards

The bits that matter when an insurer, RP, or enforcement officer asks who did the work.

My qualifications

  • FireQual Fire Door Inspector
  • CSCS Gold Card holder
  • City & Guilds qualified joiner
  • Fully insured, VAT registered

Standards I work to

  • Approved Document B (Building Regs)
  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • BS 8214:2016 — fire door assemblies
  • BS 9999:2017 — fire safety in buildings
