FireQual-certified inspections of FD30/FD60 doors—individual doors, HMOs, blocks of flats and commercial premises—as one-off checks or planned quarterly, six-monthly and annual programmes. Clear advice on repair, replacement and compliance.
Fire Door Surveys & Reports
Condition surveys, remedial and insurance reports, pre-purchase checks and specification reports—documented properly so you know exactly where you stand.
Fire Door Repairs & Maintenance
Closers, seals, hinges, ironmongery, gap corrections and adjustments. Most faults are small and fixable—I put them right rather than condemning the door.
Fire Door Installation
Installation of new timber fire doorsets—apartment entrance doors, internal fire doors and replacement doorsets—fitted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the specified doorset requirements.

1988 - The Beginning
Started my journey in joinery and building, developing exceptional craftsmanship skills and attention to detail that would become the foundation of everything I do.
1990s - Building Excellence
I established Coulsy Ltd and worked on high-end residential and commercial projects, perfecting traditional joinery techniques and modern construction methods. This is where I learned to do things properly, not cut corners.
2000s - Fire Door Experience
I fitted thousands of fire doors over the years as part of general joinery work, gaining extensive hands-on experience with fire safety requirements. I learned what works and what doesn't through real-world experience.
December 2024 - FireQual Certification
After seeing appalling workmanship in the fire door industry—doors fitted wrong, seals missing, gaps too big—I decided to specialise properly. I passed all the FireQual exams because I wanted to be the person who does it right. Now when I inspect a door, I'm checking everything properly, not rushing through like some do.
Clerk of Works / Construction Inspection
I have passed the ICWCI membership assessment for Clerk of Works. Membership remains subject to election. The discipline centres on independent inspection, quality assurance and evidence-based reporting across construction projects. Those same principles underpin my fire-door inspection work.

Inspection & Compliance
I carry out detailed fire door inspections covering the door leaf, frame, seals, gaps, hinges, closer and ironmongery. Findings are recorded in a clear written report, with defects and recommended remedial actions set out plainly for the client or Responsible Person.

The two-person buddy system
Surveys solo · repairs and fitting as a pair
Surveys are generally carried out by me personally. For repair and installation work, I normally use a two-person buddy system. Fire-door work can require an entrance or exit to remain open while the doorset or hardware is being adjusted. This allows one person to continue the work while the other monitors access, safeguards the opening and ensures tools are never left unattended.

I contracted Debbie and Robert to carry out fire safety repairs on my apartment door, following a request by the management company/freeholders. From start to finish they were a dream.
They carried out their own survey, which flagged other key aspects that needed addressing, which the one the management company carried out clearly missed.
